Biomedical Research and mentoring program (RAMP): Fall COntinuation
The fall of 2018, the first semester of my 2nd year at UC, I continued with my previous experience in the Biomedical Research and Mentoring Program (RaMP). Again, I was in the Lewkowich Lab at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, under the mentorship of Dr. Jaclyn McAlees, which is also the same lab in which I worked through SURF. This semester I was able to continue work on my project that I started over the summer, using a mouse model to study the effects of paternal allergen exposure on the development of asthma in offspring. After breeding and treating mice over the summer, we finally began harvesting and collecting data. I also continued work in RNA gene analysis, and some of my data was used in a grant submission for the lab. However, the most exciting part of my semester was having the opportunity to travel with my lab to Chicago to attend the Autumn Immunology Conference! While there, I gave a 10 minute Powerpoint presentation over my paternal exposure project during a workshop and then presented a poster. It was a great experience and I learned a lot about scientific writing, as well as how to present experimental results to an audience. A copy of my Powerpoint presentation is included below, as well as some pictures from the conference.
